FULL CUSTOM HOME BUILD
How long does a full custom home build typically take?
Timelines vary based on project complexity, permitting, and city review processes. On average, a full custom home build can take 12–24 months from initial planning to final completion. We provide realistic timelines early and keep you informed at every stage.
Do you help with architectural plans and design?
Yes. We work closely with trusted architects and engineers while also leading the interior design and finish selections. Our design-build approach ensures all teams are aligned from the beginning.
When should we involve So-Cal Design & Reno in the process?
The earlier, the better. Bringing us in during the planning phase allows us to guide feasibility, budget, and design decisions, saving time and preventing costly revisions later.
How involved will we need to be during the build?
We manage the day-to-day construction and coordination, but clients are involved at key decision points. Our goal is to make the process collaborative without overwhelming you.
Will you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. All permitting, inspections, and compliance requirements are handled in-house. We coordinate directly with the city and ensure the project meets all code requirements.
How do you manage budgets during a custom build?
We provide transparent budgeting and guidance throughout the process. Design decisions are made early to avoid surprises, and we communicate clearly if scope changes impact costs.
LUXURY RENOVATION
How do I know if my home is a good candidate for a renovation?
During our initial consultation, we evaluate your home’s structure, layout, and goals to determine feasibility. We’ll also discuss where your investment will have the greatest impact.
Can we live in our home during the renovation?
This depends on the scope of work. Some renovations allow for partial occupancy, while full-home renovations may require temporary relocation. We’ll discuss this upfront so you can plan accordingly.
How long do luxury renovations usually take?
Most luxury renovations range from 4–9 months, depending on complexity, permitting, and material lead times. A detailed timeline is provided before construction begins.
Will you help with finish and material selections?
Absolutely. Alyssa leads the design process, helping curate finishes that balance style, durability, and value. All selections are finalized before construction to keep the project moving smoothly.
How do you handle unexpected issues once walls are opened?
Older homes can reveal surprises. We communicate immediately, explain options clearly, and work with you to determine the best path forward without pressure.
Do renovations require permits?
Most structural, electrical, plumbing, and layout changes do. We handle all required permits and inspections on your behalf.
ADU / JDU
How do I know if my property qualifies for an ADU or JDU?
We start with a zoning and lot analysis to determine what’s allowed based on city regulations. Each property is unique, and we guide you through your specific options.
How long does an ADU or JDU project take?
From planning to completion, ADU and JDU projects typically take 6–12 months, depending on permitting timelines and scope.
Can you help maximize rental income or resale value?
Yes. We design ADUs with functionality, efficiency, and long-term value in mind whether the goal is rental income, multigenerational living, or added property value.
Will utilities and sewer connections be handled?
Yes. We coordinate all utility planning, connections, and upgrades as required by the city.
Are ADUs expensive to maintain?
When designed properly, ADUs are efficient and cost-effective. We guide material and system selections to keep long-term operating costs in check.
Do you manage the entire process?
Yes. From feasibility and design through permitting, construction, and final inspections, we provide a turnkey ADU/JDU solution.
